About Us

The Conference of Minority Transportation Officials (COMTO) is a multi-modal transportation organization that provides leadership programs and advocacy services to address the needs of businesses, minorities and the communities we serve. As a continued objective the Philadelphia Area Chapter of COMTO hosts an annual golf outing to raise funds to support a Scholarship program. COMTO has made a commitment to students to assist them with their educational and career aspirations.

President's Message

We are proud to introduce you to the Philadelphia Chapter of COMTO. Believing in a leveled playing field, the Philadelphia Chapter continues to involve ourselves in activities and programs in and around the community and transportation industry.

We set out with a goal to promote the national organization's Strategic Plan. This begins by striving to increase membership, getting members more involved with the outreach such as, Youth Summit, Career days( Airport, local junior and senior high schools), partnering with other organizations on community projects (Neighborhood Clean ups, Thanksgiving Basket Drives) and helping to prepare members for leadership roles by identifying professional development and training opportunities.

The development of several committees such as Special Events, Membership, Marketing and Communication and Scholarship has provided the venue to carryout our goals. Throughout the years, the level of activity increased with participations of both members and non-members joining together to bring about successful results.

Philadelphia Chapter has two Flagship events which are based around scholarships. Over the last ten years we have been able with the help of our sponsors and partner organizations to raise and award nearly $325,000 in scholarships. The first event is our golf outing held each year during late summer. This event is followed by the scholarship application process held during the winter months. This all comes together in June with a scholarship award event held to showcase the awardees.

I am very proud of what the Philadelphia Chapter has done and truly believe that this is only the beginning.

How the Philadelphia Area Chapter Began

The Philadelphia Area Chapter of COMTO was founded in 1981 and is bound by the By-laws and regulations of the national organization, and shares their 501( c) (3). The chapter actively participates in the national organization through its seat on the executive board, financial contributions to the national scholarship program, and attendance at the annual training conference.

COMTO membership in the Philadelphia area now includes minority businesses, students, professional service companies, community organizations and all modes of public transportation.
